Lake Caroline residents were in for a real treat when they showed up at the park to meet and hear Symeon Robins share information and experiences from his years as a falconer. To become a registered falconer, students must complete a course and apprentice for two years. This ancient sport is used for hunting small game and in sporting competitions.
Mr. Robins shared his stories and demonstrated how to hold his birds using a gauntlet and jess. He even let attendees give it a try. They learned quickly that techniques such as a slight twist of the wrist are necessary to give the birds a good perch, and much fun and laughter was had as they work to perfect what had been demonstrated.
